Large Double Square Basket
Winner: 2002 Edith L. Grodin Basketry Award
As a basket artisan and designer since 1983, I specialize in the intricacy of tiny baskets, nearly all measuring less than 4 inches, the smallest measuring only 5/8" X 1" at its base! Using predominantly silky smooth black ash for the basket's structure, I weave in a variety of twill patterns, hand-dyed colors, or adornment details, including tiny glass Delica beads, natural plant materials, waxed linen cord, and textured fibers. My line of basketry ornaments and embellished necklaces offer a similar intricate detailing. Since I hand-shape without the aid of molds, no two of my baskets or other creations are exactly alike. Each item is a truly original keepsake or collectible, with my initials and usually the date and my home state initials (if they can be squeezed into a tiny spot!) on its base or back.
