2008 is a celebration year for me- completing the weaving of 2000 baskets in my 25 years of weaving! The first 1000 baskets were of the large rattan variety and now over 1000 of my creations are of the tiny black ash variety. I now have created over 75 designs, some retired but most still in production. I love this tiny format - it gives me an outlet to express the very detail-oriented part of me and it provides a way to carry on a family tradition.

My Grandma Bailey painted exquisite tiny flowers on whole sets of dishes and decorative wall plates and, most special to me, on a tiny porcelain tea set. I have several of her beautiful plates decorating my walls and I still have that tiny tea set with my name and the date painted on it. After playing with that as a little girl (can you believe my mom actually allowed it?), is it any wonder that I love creating tiny things?

Then there was my Great-grandfather Forsberg, a fine shoemaker, and Grandpa Forsberg, a cabinetmaker, both of whom emigrated from Sweden in the early 1900's, I feel that I am carrying on their tradition of fine Swedish craftsmanship. My husband Rob, also half Swedish, is my biggest fan and helps to name all my little "babies". After 35 years of marriage and a now-empty nest, we are still very much in love with each other and with living in New Hampshire all of our 35 years together.

Artist Statement

As I work in my studio in our 1830's home, looking out across the meadow, I weave my baskets and ornaments with inspiration from the world around me. The color, pattern, and texture of things that cross my path in life can be found in some aspect of my work. A photo of a friend's chubby-cheeked baby inspired my miniature creation which I named "For Abigail"; winter snowflakes found their way into the series of "Snowflake Tray" intricate twill weave baskets; three hurricanes threatening my parents' Florida home took shape in "Eye of the Hurricane".

It is a joy and a gift to be able to express my love of and pleasure in little things through my designing and weaving. It is my desire to create a thing of beauty that will be cherished and kept as a family heirloom.
